Part 2:  A Legal and Practical Discussion on the Intersection of Local Government & Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) is becoming a commonly used tool among local governmental entities and, as the technology continues to evolve, it is likely AI will only become more prominent in our day-to-day professional lives. While AI has many benefits, there are also some legal and practical considerations local governments must be mindful of when utilizing the technology. For example, novel employment and records issues may arise depending on the use of AI. This webinar will help local government leaders gain a greater practical understanding of how AI is being used in the workplace and what to consider in navigating the associated legal concerns that may arise.

Presenters:

Ryan Heiden is a Shareholder in the Government Law Group where he focuses his practice on school law and public sector labor and employment issues.

Ryan helps public sector employers navigate and minimize risk with respect to a wide-range of complex and sensitive labor and employment issues by providing employers with trusted and practical guidance. He is also adept at navigating Wisconsin’s Open Meetings and Public Records Laws, as well as unique issues related to public safety employees and police and fire commissions.

Chris Avallone Co-Chairs von Briesen’s Appellate Section and is a member of the Commercial and Business Litigation Section. He has represented a wide variety of clients in both the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, as well as the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Chris is well-versed in the use and legal implications of artificial intelligence (“AI”). Chris advises clients on using AI and helps them to develop internal policies on the use of AI. As a member of von Briesen’s task force on AI, he has spoken on the topic to internal and external audiences. In his practice, he responsibly deploys large language models to increase efficiency and drive better outcomes for his clients.
